Call 0407 977 529As the rural electrician for Sale and Wellington Shire, we work the farms, acreage and timber country that surround the town. Sale, postcode 3850, is the hub, but the rural work spreads out across the shire — the Macalister Irrigation District around Maffra, the rural-residential acreage at Longford, and the timber country at Heyfield. We are the Wellington Shire rural electrician, not a Latrobe Valley contractor, and we do not cross into the Latrobe money pages. The network here is AusNet, and there is no reticulated gas on most rural blocks, so we plan power around that.
Rural electrical work we do
Rural work is heavier duty than residential. Around Maffra and the Macalister Irrigation District, the big jobs are dairy shed wiring — three-phase distribution, milking plant circuits, vat room power, and wash-down lighting that has to survive a wet environment. Irrigation pumps are a constant: we run sub-mains out to pump sites, size cables for long runs, and install motor protection and safety switches that actually trip when a pump faults. At Longford, the rural-residential acreage blocks need shed and workshop power — power points, lighting, and three-phase for lathes and welders. At Heyfield, the timber town on the Macalister, we handle workshop and yard power for timber-related businesses along the Licola Road approach.
Common rural jobs include three-phase switchboard builds and upgrades for sheds, sub-mains and trenching to outbuildings, bore and irrigation pump connections, EV charger installs for rural properties with long driveways, data cabling for sheds and home offices on acreage, and rewiring of older farm houses that still run on outdated cabling. We also do fault finding on rural circuits where a long sub-main or a damp shed can cause intermittent trips that are hard to pin down.
Planning and travel
Rural work needs planning. A dairy shed rewire or a new three-phase shed board is not a same-day job — it needs a site visit, a quote, and materials. We cover the whole shire: Maffra is about 18 minutes north-west, Heyfield 30 to 35 minutes north-west, Longford 8 minutes south, and Yarram the long run south — about 72 kilometres and 50 minutes on the A440, a planned day trip. For urgent rural faults — a tripping dairy pump, a shed with no power — we aim for same-day attendance where we can. See the FAQ.
